I don't know if this is the right place to post this question, but here goes...when I do a warm boot it tells me the: Memory 8192 KB, then sometimes it will tell me that Memory test: 131---- is ok. what is the difference. I have installed 128 mgs of ram.
I am wondering if this could be another clue
to the other problems I am having with my machine. Thanks, Gayle

A little more system info would be helpfull.
Where is it telling you that you have the memory? Is this the memory test when you boot your computer? Or is this in the properties screen of my computer?
How many sticks of RAM do you have installed? What type of sticks?

The 8192 is probably your video memory. the 131 is your RAM.

Additionally, a lot of people trip up on this.
1 meg = 1024 kb (1 kb = 1024bytes)
Therefore 128meg = 131072kb
A little confusing, but the kb is greater than the mb count.

I'm guessing that Gayle has one stick of RAM, 128K, which in Kbytes would come out as 131072Kb. But if your memory count is different from one day to the next, you got problems!!!

A few things that can cause bad RAM counts -
Mixed RAM - different manufacturers
doesn't matter if it's otherwise exactly the same stuff
Mixed RAM - SIMMS & DIMMS
Mixed RAM - EDO - NON-EDO - ECC - NONECC
Mixed RAM - same manufacturer, different production runs
Mixed RAM - different speeds - 60NS, 70NS, etc. etc.
BIOS settings - some RAM requires set-up in the BIOS as far as special features - ECC, and other stuff - changes from BIOS to BIOS.
Bad RAM typically shows up with bad RAM counts or changing RAM counts - but I've seen a lot of other strange things - software not working, and even a floppy drive not reading correctly, strange, but that's what it was - bad RAM mix....
