I'm running windows 95. My mouse locks up when ever a windows prompt comes up, (like when it asks if you want to save any changes
yada yada). Also sometime the windows starting sound doesn't work. This has been happening with my old kensiko mouse and also with my NEW logitech mouse. I looked in device manager for any conflicts and nothings
showing. I have onboard soundpro and audio cd's work fine in cdrom drive, its just this windows sound thing.

An experiment to try (not suggesting this as a permanent solution, just a troubleshoot) might be to go to System Sounds in the Control Panel, and set some of the sounds to None and see if your mouse locks up less.
If so, I would think that some driver to your sound card is corrupt or not installed correctly. Or a conflict between card and serial mouse port?

The sound problem may just be concurrent with the real problem, whatever it is. Try setting your Graphics Acceleration down a notch to disable the Hardware cursor.

Is your new mouse a Logitech Cordless Wheel Mouse? If so you might have power managment problem. If your mouse freezes or gives you an error message when waking your PC up from suspend,in Windows 9x, run Regedit.exe and edit the string value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Logitech\MouseWare\Cur rentVersion\Technical\APMMode="Off"
This is how I cured my problems of lockup with the Control Center version: 9.00.94
