I have just recieved a copy of windows 2000 pro, so I upgraded win98 just to check that it would work properly on my computer before formatting and doing a completely clean install. I upgraded and it worked fine, just needed to get a few updated drivers.

The problem came when I tried to format I have used the format within win2000 on the command prompt that didnt work it said the drive was in use. I have tried using a boot disk to force the computer into dos, when I got into dos the c:\ drive is not recognised, this is because it is ntfs file system, which does not support dos or fat or fat32. So therefore in the dos prompt I cant use format c:\ as the c:\ drive is not recognised. Fdisk wont work either for the same reason. I have also tried using the windows98 cd to get me to a command prompt but again the c:\ drive is not recognised beacause of this ntfs file system not liking dos.

So has anyone out there got any bright ideas as to how I can get win2000 of so I can do a clean install.

Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

P.S is there any software that I can use to help me, like partition magic etc.

Iain.

When I but with nt 4.0 cd setup starts up and gives me the option to format. If you have nt 4.0 you could try that.

Fdisk should work

just remove the NON msdos partitions they should be the NTFS drive

If you can boot with cd-rom suport.
put the win 2000 disk in change to the bootdisk dir on the cd and run makeboot.exe
to make a boot disk. Then you can fdisk and format from there.
