Finally decided to upgrade to Win 98se by formatting & starting from scratch. Backed everything up, but my boot disk won't boot with CD ROM support. Tried a couple from different machines & get the same thing. After some CD drivers load I get the message, "Scanning PCI BUS using Mechanism #2", and it just hangs there. The disks work in other machines. I have an FIC 503A with an AMD k6-400. I checked the BIOS and don't see where anything changed.

Any ideas what I need to do to correct this?

Thanks.

Make a change in your bios. Select cdrom as first boot device. Boot disk for cdrom support will not be needed... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Well... I tried that, but it still boots to the C & goes into Windows. Trieda couple of different settings CDROM,A,C and E,A,SCSI - same results, it goes into Windows.

how long have you let it sit there before shuting it down?

"Scanning PCI BUS using Mechanism #2"
You got the CD-Rom connected to a sound card?
If so, try connecting it to the MB and see what happens. After you load windows and set up the sound card, you can switch it back if you really wanted to.
If this is not the case, check the CD-Rom in device manager and see if it requires a special driver. (I'm assuming you haven't formatted yet since your still booting into windows).

Got it working!!! I found a post from December, http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum2/HTML/003804.html
Seems I had to rem out some of the CD drivers in the Config.sys on the boot disk. I beleive it has something to do with either ATA66, FIC motherboards or both. My best guess is the ATA 66.

Anyhow, I'm back in business again, SysOpt saved my *** once again!
