I just installed ZoneAlarm a few days ago and it works fine with one exception. When it's first activated, Outlook Express connects fine and the I get my EMail, but after the machine sits idle for a few hours, I cannot connect to the mail server again unless I stop and start ZoneAlarm. I think there is probably something I am missing in the configuration, but I am at a loss. What is it I'm not setting correctly?

I don't have any problems either, every thing seems to work fine. And I have been using it for a few weeks now

I've been using ZoneAlarm and Outlook Express eversince i got dsl. When you double click on the zonealarm icon in the systray go to programs and make sure that outlook express is there. When Zone alarm asks you "Allow Outlook Express to access internet" Go to remember answer and click on yes. If you've already done this then i'm sorry.
Are you on dial-up?
Hope this helps.

I have the same problem with Eudora only ZoneAlarm doesn't allow it to get mail at all. Tech support is working on it. I just check my mail and shut it down before starting Zone.

I don't have any problem with email and zonealarm. Have you tried clicking on allow server? Or maybe upgrading or downgrading the version of ZA? Some people had problems with the new version and went back to an older one.

I am also running Norton Anti-virus checking the email. What's the point of downgrading? Tech support suggested blocking mailsafe in the security panel. I found that lowering internet security to medium did the trick. At least til they get a fix.

I'm on cable, and I've noticed in the Alerts list that the IP address of the mail server changes from time to time and this is when I have the problem. I shut down and restart ZoneAlarm and it runs fine until it tries to connect to a new IP address, then it locks up on Connecting and I have to recycle.
I love zonealarm, but i haven't had much trouble with it and OE5 ,, im running win98, a really stable set up,,usually zonealarm run at startup no problem,,but a couple of times lately it has crash big big time as the computer is booting,,multiple bluescreens and explorer crashs,, maybe like 1 time out of 50 times it's done it, cant figure out what was different,,nothing changed with the system.
It's crazy how many probes are made on my ip address & ports, all the hacking attempts, i always get scanned for the ports for netbus and sub seven trojans..... scary man
