I am trying to buy some RAM but the seller says:
"There is no doubt that these are 168 pin DIMMs. But, again, your motherboard must accept buffered memory. Without a side by side comparison they look identical but its the location of the alignment notch that is
slightly different to identify the physical type."
He sent me the specs from the manufacturer and I can't tell any difference between the allignment notches of my DIMM modules and the notches of the illustrated modules. Is it possible that the notches are actually in different positions? I am otherwise convinced that my machine will take this memory. This is Micron memory MT18LD472(F)(X).

Hey it sounds good to me...Without knowing what MOTHERBOARD you have such...before I give you a definitive answer I would need to know more about your system.

I have an Ability clone of the Amptron PII-2200A. It has four 168 pin memory slots. It will take SDRAM or EDO memory, although you can't mix them. It has some kind of ECC selection function in BIOS.

From everything that I can find the answer to your question is YES the memory will work just fine with that motherboard. /forum/smile.gif

That's what I figure, but I wanted to make sure.
Has anybody else experienced some other kind of 168 pin DIMM?

Go to "crucial.com/library/realpc100.asp"
without the quotes and you can download a program that describes the different kinds of RAM
Banzango: Printing it out right NOW! Will study and comply...over and out!! /forum/smile.gif

PROBLEM SOLVED! There ARE different types of 168 pin memory modules. In this case, I took my old memory out and measured the position of the allignment notch and compared to the position on the diagram offered by the seller. They differ by about a millimeter, enough to prevent the module from being inserted.
Sorry Mntsnow, but I was amazed too. Nothing in all the general information sites where I read about 168 pin DIMMs did they say ANYTHING about the possibility of there being different kinds of modules.
