I have an i440LX chipset motherboard with 4 DIMM memory slots. It is an Ability clone of the Amptron PII-2200A motherboard. Will it support buffered memory? I copied this clue from motherboards.org:

"Most new motherboards (1997-) use 3.3 V unbuffered 168-pin DIMM's. Some servers (actually any motherboard with >4 DIMM sockets) use buffered 168-pin DIMM's. 5 V memory cannot be used with 3.3 V memory."

Unfortunately, it doesn't really say one way or another what I want to know.

Your motherboard manual will tell you. Most likely your system uses unbuffered SDRAM.

The manual is not too extensive and says nothing as far as I can tell about buffered memory. It looks like I am going to get this memory, but the seller was very concerned that I knew exactly what I was getting into and I don't.

Please, anyone else?

Thanks, that is the page on how and what memory to install, but there is nothing there on buffered memory.

In the Guides section of this site under Chipset I find the following:

Data Buffering for Increased Performance
Extensive CPU-to-DRAM, PCI-to-DRAM, and AGP-to-DRAM Write Data Buffering
CPU-to-AGP, PCI-to-AGP, and AGP-to-PCI Burst Writes
Supports Concurrent Host, PCI, and AGP Transactions to Main Memory

Is this Data Buffering the buffering that this memory requires?

PROBLEM SOLVED! Via the Crucial technologies site contacted via the Guides section at this site I was informed that my chipset the 440-LX does NOT support buffered memory.
