We're having problems with a number of models and series, but this particular one has the Rage IIc onboard. We cant change the resolution or amount of colors. It says unableto change display settings, please check display hardware in device manager. We have, and did. There areno conflicts, we've updated drivers and checked the registry, we can't seem to get it to work. We're thinking it's a problem with Win98 SE. Anyone have any ideas or having the same problem?

The problem with the gateways seems to resolve itself if we revert back to the first version of Win98, then re-install Win98 SE. I dunno..also, we were having the same problems with a different brand of computers, and it seems having desktop sharing enabled in Netmeeting keeps us from changing the resolutions or colors. We just found another gateway with the problem, and disabling netmeeting cured it...any fixes?

I've run into similar problems in the past when the video card drivers were not completely removed before installing the drivers or else they weren't completely installed. Make sure you set the video adapter to "standard video display adapter (VGA)" before making the switch to the new and/or newer drivers. You also might want to check that Direct X is installed properly. Hope this helps.

We've found the problem. It happens on each of the 3 series of Gateways we have, and all the OmniTech's (http://otcwi.com) we have. The gateways use integrated video, the Omnitechs use AGP video Cards. We use the latest version of Netmeeting, v 3.01. To reduce service calls we are installing netmeeting on each machine with remote desktop sharing enabled and active, so if someone has a problem, we just connect and fix it. This seems to completely disable any kind of changes in resolution. We turn it off, we can change the resolution. This happens on each brand and model of machine, whether they're on the network or not. Go figure...Don't use Netmeeting 3.01. On a side note, have you seen the list of hardware with known incompatibilities wih Win98 SE? Good god, there's lots of stuff, including A lot of the most popular video cards, and even the Soundblaster LIVE!.
i ve had same problem with voodo cards. but thts fixed when we reinstall the driver
