No background in IE 5

When I visit web pages in IE 5 I get no background images or colours, its always just a white background. I have looked around in all the options and cannot find anything.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The only thing I can imagine is either you visit websites with white backgrounds or you have the opposite of below set up. Direct from help

To turn off graphics to display all Web pages faster

On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab.
In the Multimedia area, clear one or more of the Show pictures, Play animations, Play videos, or Play sounds check boxes.
Tips

If the Show pictures or Play videos check box is cleared, you can still display an individual picture or animation on a Web page by right-clicking its icon and then clicking Show Picture.
If the pictures on the current page are still visible after you clear the Show pictures check box, you can hide them by clicking the View menu and then clicking Refresh.

Hai,
You can set the background and font colors through the internet options from tools menu (IE 5) or view menu (IE 4)
Please follow these steps to achieve this:

-> go to tools menu select internet options
-> Click on Colors button on internet options dialog box
-> select appropriate color settings in background and text color and visited and unvisisted in link pane and click on OK
-> Then click on Apply.

To set fonts select internet options
-> click on font button
-> select web page font and plain text font
and click on OK and Apply

Couple of questions:
Have you put all the settings back to "default"?
Are you current with all the updates like Direct X?
What kind of Vidio card have you got, and are the drivers current?

Has IE worked properly before?
Have you noticed any other problems like blurred pages or Icons?
