My "New" one year old computer does not have a USB port. Is there an extension or converter I can use if I want to add a digital camera to my computer. I had the computer built, but they did not put in a USB port. Can this be added?

Yes Helen, you can purchase a PCI based USB card. They can be found at Best Buy, CompUSA or through dozens of online computer retailers.
They usually feature two USB ports.

THOUGHT: You may want to check your motherboard and see if doesn’t support USB. Many boards shipped without USB hard wired in but featured a three or four pin plugin on the motherboard.
In this case you will simply need to purchase an adapter. They can be found for about twelve dollars, cheaper than the PCI solution.

Check you motherboard manual or manufacturer website. Some already have USB support builted-in the only thing you need is a USB port plate no need for a USB PCI card.

Hi
If your boards only a year old theres a good chance it has USB port on board and they just didn't coonect it up to save a few bucks when they built it, even boards that a now 2 and 3 year old commonly had these ports.

Thanks to all. I will check it out.
There's one other possibility though it's less likely...
I've seen a few machines that were built locally that had usb ports onboard but had not removed the cutout tabs or the tabs were not present on the rear trim pamel.
I doubt this would be the case on a mass-produced computer but it may be worth a look.
