What sites are you on when this happens,
Is it a TW mobo site.

It happens on lots of sites, mainly within things like license agreements or indeed in this very box whilst I'm typing. All I see are weird symbols, not text.
Barring a hardware issue, two options I can think of:
1) The site you are visiting is a foreign language site using a non-Western European character-set. This commonly occurs with Russian, Japanese, or Chinese language sites.
Unlikely if things like Sysopt are causing problems.
2) Your browser is set up to use one of these languages by default.
(IE only, dont know about Netscape):
Go to View menu->Encoding and see what is selected there. Select Western European (Windows) if that is suitable for your own native language. There are many more options there (Eastern European, Arabic, Cyrillic, etc)
Go to Tools menu->Internet Options->General tab.
Click the Fonts button near the bottom of the dialogue. Where the language script drop-down box should be "Latin based" (again assuming you want English or similar)
Also check that the selected font is not Symbol, Wingdings, etc. That would give a similar effect /forum/smile.gif
Finally, still on the General tab, click the Languages button next to Fonts and check that your local variant of English (or whatever) appears here.
If you do change any of this info to use a non-Latin character set, you may be prompted to install a new set (e.g. Chinese Traditional). Many of these can be found for free at the Microsoft site.
Hope this points you in the right direction,
U-96

Cheers U-96. When I checked FONTS nothing seemed to be highlighted in the PLAIN TEXT BOX, so I chose Lucida Console. PRoblem solved. Thanks again.
[edit] bah, premature extrapolation! /forum/wink.gif
