Like overburning, PSX backup, etc. Eli 11-12-1999, 09:23 PM I have a Mitsumi 4x2x8 and am fairly happy with it. The price was right... ($150 Canadian after mail-in rebate at Future Shop, and it came with the Adaptec software.) After about 65 CDs now I've only had 4 coasters, and 3 were pretty much just user error. As for ram, I only had 32 megs when I bought it and I didn't have any problems with that. Good luck... (Medieval) 11-12-1999, 09:35 PM I'm using Win 98 (initial release) I plan on: backing up my downloaded games and software onto cds... making mp3 cds.. POSSIBLY burn some PSX cds for a friend.. download of ISOs --> burn on cds... that's about it really. That a good enough description? /forum/smile.gif I gotta find a sale or something. /forum/smile.gif (Medieval) 11-13-1999, 12:58 AM I was thinking of getting a SCSI but decided against it because I don't have enough cash /forum/smile.gif I live in Canada.. all the IDE burners seem to be around $200-300 in local comp. shops.... anyway, things I'd like to clear up: I heard burning at higher speeds (4x and 6x) sometimes results in more failed burns.. How much ram would be sufficient? Some people say 128, some say 64. I have 64 on a rather optimized Cel 400/Asus p2-99 system so I warrant it'd be enough.. I realize if you have less ram/IDE you better not be doing much anything while burning.. so I've heard. The only problem with these topics is they seem to be highly opinionitive "SCSI rules.. IDE sucks totally..". Though most people I talk to say IDE work just great (for a non-power user /forum/smile.gif) Anyway, varoius ones I could get: Mitsumi 4x2x8 ( a little slow on the rewrite, though I don't think I'll use that much.) Ricoh 6x4x24 (nice.. some say they are great others say they break quickly...warranty? /forum/smile.gif) Goldstar 4x4x24 Samsug 6x4x24 If I don't plan on using the CDR as a fast CDROM drive (I have a 40x right now), isn't the read speed being high kind of useless? That won't help me burn faster by a significant margin will it? Sorry for the barrage of questions, Medieval Wiz 11-14-1999, 12:02 AM I believe the error ratio is 1 every 10^12 for my cd-rw, but that is only a 2x2x24x, and not one bad disk, so far. Around 80 burned now. In fact, most Hp writers are around that, even the 4x4x24x. SysOpt.com
