ive heard people say that you get better performance if you make a seperate partition for windows, one for the swap file, and one for all the rest of your progz - i tried it before - but i never noticed any better performance or faster access to anything....
some people will create seperate partitions for games/programs/mp3z and the such just to keep it organized.. my personal preference would be to just make it all one huge drive, cuz then i really know how much space i have left without having to do any adding /forum/smile.gif

When you patition you acctually get more HD space, or I should say you don't lose as much. Not sure why but it's true. It might not be that much but the larger the drive the more you lose.

It really is personal preference IMHO.
I like to create at least two partitions
with the c: drive being 650 megs or less.
I put windows and all the driver files on it
and then load up the other programs to the D:
drive. When all is done I image the c: partition to a cd. If there is a problem down the line I just have to format c: and reinstall the cd image with the copy command..all the registry settings and drivers are back and ready to go

First of all, if you load DOS 5 on a partioned drive, no partions over 1gb, load windows98 on, convert all the partions to fat32 and then link them together with BIGDISK, hen you will have a huge drive, well beyond 10gb, likely over 14gb.

I tried the partiton stuff so one big FAT32 partition for Win9x and another 600 MB for swap, internet cache, etc. If you have a UDMA 33/66 HD then is a good choice.
I then remebered I had an oldie Quantum Fireball 600MB HD lying around. Didn't put the swap file there... kinda slow, but saved from fragmenting the primary HD by using it as a cache dump disk... explorer, netscape, etc.
