This is driving me mad,I have a p3500 on
abit BH6.I took off retail heatsink and put
on a bigger FAN/Heatsink Combo.PC boots fine
and all things check out ok.But after 1 Min
the machine will reset itself. Is it heat
related? or is my CPU damaged?.

PS I applied compound to cpu and heatsink is solid as a rock.

Please help me!

Make sure you CPU is fully seated.

i had a similar problem with a 266 p2, the problem was the clock speed/mutipler was changes, if your clock speed is set by the bios, check it and make sure it is 100x5

You may want to follow AGhoul's advice and venture into the BIOS. Verify the multiplier and FSB speed (5 X 100mhz).

There is also a page that will show your CPU temperature. If you have a utility to monitor the temperature you can use that in the OS to watch the temperature until the system resets.

If no utility, then reboot and hit DEL to enter BIOS. Go to page with tempreature readings. Watch for a couple of minutes and see if the temperature goes through the roof.

If the temp stays constant after a few minutes, then heat is not a problem. Exit BIOS (save if you made changes) and boot. Does the reset occur now?

If the heat goes up dangerously, you may be upon a very important lesson. It matters little the size of the heatsink, but how much heat it dissipates. Meaning a big heatsink with crappy circulation is worse than a crappy heatsink and great circulation. Circulation or air flowing over the sink will improve its performance greatly.

Lastly, run a REAL virus checker, you may have one.
