I've experienced this on two completely different setups. The microphone seems to work (when not muted you can hear yourself in the speakers), but in sound recorder & other progs, no sound is inputted. What could be the cause of this? It must be my fault cuz I'm the one who setup both these computers!
Thanks,

It lookes like the icon of the mic have not been chosen in the your system you just easly check the windows sound icon for the mic.

Common oversight. The mixer has separate controls for recording and playback. You've got mic enabled for playback, but not for recording.

Thanks for your input, but it was actually a different problem. Another program, which was installed with the sound drivers, had it's own volume control center. The mic in that setup was turned all the way down.... even though it looked fine in Windows!
So if you know anybody else who has a mic problem, here's another thing to check for!

Problem with enabling it in playback is you'll get feedback when you record.
