My girlfiend has an AMD k6/2 400 with a V2 12mb PCI (don't know which one)and a s3 Trio AGP 2 or 4mb. She's got an hitachi dvd/cd-rom and cannot get the movies to play on it. Does she need a newer graphics card or software? And if so which software or graphics card does she need?

Basically, there are two methods: software and hardware. You need to have MPEG player software, but if you want to get high picture quality, you need to install a MPEG accelerator card accompanied by/or in concert with a good video card, they make combo cards such as the ATI All in Wonder which do a great job of handleing it...

I use the Hitachi dvd and if ya look in the manual it tells you exactly what hardware/software they recommend... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Best MPEG play back card is Sigma Design's Hollywood card($55). with 400MHz cpu and atleast 64 MB memory, even a soft decoder should do fine

Thanks for the advice on hardware solutions but, she's doesn't want to upgrade so what software would you reccommend using to display DVD movies?
