My friend's had two probs w/their computer. 1. was a trojan infection
2. was spilled full cup of coffee of keyboard.

I took care of trojan, however, they then lost keyboard and mouse. Popped out their hard drive, installed it in my computer- everything worked. Popped it back in their's nothing.. Did they fry the keyboard port? If so, is there any way I can get around this? Any suggestions?

By the way, they get steady beeps on boot which stop after POST but can't do anything w/keyboard. Tried different keyboards, including mine- none of which worked. We are really in a bind because we formatted and now cannot install OS because of lack of keyboard (unless I pop out their hdd and do it from mine). HELP!

TIA,
Kris

Some system boards have a fuse on them for the keyboard. You might want to check if it does. If it does not then I'd say that the system board is done.... Does the system have a usb port? See if you can borrow a usb keyboard and if it works. It might be cheeper than a new system board.

Thanks for the reply. They don't seem to have a fuse that I remember seeing (believe me, I was looking!) nor do they have a usb port, which I also hoped to see. It's a generic built PC, just the basics, nothing fancy. ****.
Where could I find them a mb cheap, any ideas?

Thanks,
Kris

The fuse is usually very tiny and it would be easy to miss if you were not looking specifically for a fuse. You might want to check the mainboard manual or the manufacturers web site to see if you can find any further information. If you post the make / model of the mainboard then possibly someone can help you. Also post the O/S as some of them don't have usb support.

Codybear... I'll be amazed if you can have lunch and cover the cost of shipping a usb "thingy" for $10. You obviously don't eat right http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
