Dell Dimension
450mhz PIII
256MB ECC SDRam
10gig 7200 HD
Win98 SP2
FileMaker Pro 4.0
Office2000
Etc. etc.

The problem is that when windows 98 starts, and you get to the desktop, it pops up an error window with Microsoft connection wizard in the title bar of the box. The error is "Service profile is damaged. Re-Install the service profile." What in the world is happening. I've reinstalled windows, reinstalled Office and reinstalled File Maker Pro. This error started happening when a Fatal error occurred, and instead of the three finger salute, the machine was turned off. I've also done a SFC and a scandisk to no avail. Any recommendations welcome.

Another thing, during post, an alert pops up stating that the cover was removed. This is happening because of the recent ram upgrade. How do I get that alert off? Is it something in the bios?

I know it's something simple, but I guess I'm just overlooking it or something...

Thanx in advance.

You will get this message sometimes when
MS fax isn't set up correctly...that is if you had it in before...?

I may be out in left field, but the only profile I can think of has to do with IE4 & 5. If this is the case, you need to edit your profile by going to control panel, internet options, content, edit profile (or my profile) and reenter data. Hope this helps

There is no internet connection on this computer. It does have IE installed, though. It also didn't have fax installed. I'm at a total loss here. Good suggestions, but still no resolution.

I'm sure it has something to do with that crash mentioned in my first post. They were trying to print out of Filemaker pro, had the crash, and turned off the pc. When it was restarted this problem started. I've also reinstalled the printer..... I'm going nutso me thinks....

Have you ran scanreg from dos? Or do you have nortons, try both of those. It may have never had an internet connection, but it thinks it has at one time, the fatal error probably corrupted the registry, and maybe one of those programs will fix it.
