Make sure "always dial my default connection" is checked in connection properties.

I don't believe you said whether you are running 95 or 98. If 95, you will need to install Client for Microsoft Networks in Control Panel/Network.

dunce worked but so did installing client i reformatted my harddrive and put windows back on and that was the missing link thank you i am very thankful

If you are using win95? Click on the Network icon in your control panel and make sure that "Client for Microsoft Networks" is installed then choose the Identification tab and change your computer name to your internet username. This work most of the time.

Just make sure Client for Microsoft Networks is installed.

After it reboots it'll ask you for a user/pass to log on to the network (your computer) if you don't want to see that again just click ok with the password blank...if it gives you an error like invalid password you can do a search for *.pwl delete them then reboot then leave the password blank and you should be good to go.
