Here's my situation:
I have a new Maxtor DiamondPlus 40 (20.4GB) and an older Maxtor 6800 series (13.6GB). Both will run on same primary IDE cable at ATA66 in the standard master/slave configuration.
What I want to do is have Windows 98SE on the DiamondPlus 40(primarily for gaming,3d effects modeling, and application environments not supported by win2k) and Win2000 Pro(NTFS) on the Maxtor 6800 series(primarily for rigorous wave editing/compilation,and just rock solid stability).
Which operating system should I install first? Installing Windows 98SE on the DiamondPlus 40 first would be best correct, then install Win2k from within Win98 as a clean install on the second harddrive? How should I go about formating each drive? Can I use my win98 boot disk to load the ramdac for fdisking and formatting both drives? I'm all set with fdisk/format with win98SE, but unfamiliar with that approach for win2k. Also will I need to use any programs like boot magic or such?
All I want is to simply be able to choose which harddrive(operating system) to boot up during startup, while keeping normal performance for both OS environments.
As you can tell, I have never done this before, and am looking for some advice that would save me problems and time. And I know I have come to the right place to ask! Would greatly appreciate it...thank you!!

Ha fdisk whats that? I dont even use it anymore! If you recieved Maxblast with your harddrives I would use that with a win98 emerg disk and you are off to the races.
As it is a bootable disk just plug Maxblast in your A drive follow the simple directions set up partitions with Fat32 install Win98. Then install Win2000 tell it you want clean install and where, and if you want it installed on Fat32 or NTFS and you are done.
Just so you know if you install NTFS win98 will not see your Win2k partitions but Win2k will see and can use your fat32 partitions.
Win2k will install your dual boot setup for you and next time you boot you will have option to go to Win98 or Win2k.
Its easy just follow your nose!

Oh yeah Win 2k will change your fat32 to NTFS if you tell it to.Have fun.

I dont know if you can download it from Maxtor or not, just assumed you had it. You dont need it though just fdisk and format c: /s install 98 then 2000 in different partition or drive and follow instructions in win2k. It will set up ntfs if you want it and dual boot setup for you.
