if you have USB ports get a usb scanner does not realy matter who makes it as long as it's a USB port scanner you can print and scan at the same time and they are 10 X or more faster than a parallel port scanner. I have a acerscan 310U works realy good fast no problems with it, gr8 pictures and was around $100 new been using it for around a year now /forum/smile.gif and done 1000's of scan's /forum/smile.gif

You can get a Visioneer 6100B for a very reasonable price and it should do the job nicely. I believe there is also a $30 rebate on that unit. I like Visioneer scanners because the picture quality is decent and the Paperport software is the best there is, IMHO.
I have a Umax Astra 1220s (scsi). It's not new or anything but it's still more of a machine than really need. I bet you could find them pretty cheap.

Just recently (about 6 months ago) I helped set up Wife's G3 power Mac which she uses for DTP/graphics with a Microtec Scanmaker X6 USB scanner, results it been back for repair already power supply problems, as for quality, I personally think I get better and faster results off an old Mustek 600 lll EP Plus scanner set up to one of my work computers and as of yet it's not failed. as of Microtec I will never buy another.
If you want quality go for a SCSI scanner even an old one as long as it has good 1200 X 1200 matrix min. ( I have heard from other users who have the Umax Astra SCSI scanner that they are more than happy with the service they give and how robust they are.

Cal, I have a MicroTek SlimScan C6, and I love it. For $69.00 bucks I don't think you can beat it. Have had no problems with it, other than being parallel and a little slow.
