Hello Anybody

I have a very unique problem That I can't find a solution for.
I have an FIC PAG-2130 (PCB 1.3A)motherboard with onboard video
and sound. It has a AMD K62 533. It also has 128MB of pc100 sdram.
The problem is that when I push the power button, the fan comes on
but nothing else happens. However, if I push the power button and
then push the reset button it will boot (sometimes I have to push
reset several times) it runs through POST with no errors. I checked
the obvious, the connectors to the power and reset buttons, they
are correct. I switched them, which basically reversed the buttons
(pushing the power button did nothing at all, I needed to push
reset and then power to get the system working) needless to say
this wasn't the solution. I checked out the FIC website, tried a
few things, It had no solution to this dilemma. I switched the ATX
power supply with another known working ATX supply. I switched cases,
problem still existed. I reseated the memory. Tried swapping with a
known working DIMM. I tried a different CPU (changing the voltage,
clock multiplier, and bus speed accordingly) I am trying all these
tests running with just a keyboard and monitor, nothing else. I Had
the problem with the system completely together running win 98se
(Hard drive, video accelerator, dvd and cdrw, etc.), still had the
problem. As a last resort I tried flashing the BIOS to an updated
version, which caused the system to be completely inoperable. I used
tech support from Tiger direct before flashing the bios and they could
not come up with a solution. I was able to get a new motherboard, but
I still have the same problem. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, I have
built computers in the past with no problem, nothing like this
anyways. I am using static precautions. I hope I didn't go into
too much detail. Please let me if you know of any possible solution.

Thankyou,

Just a guess - but sounds like your doc on where to plug in case wires is wrong. It is unlikely that two different mobos would act with the same error unless they are hooked up wrong. You could try different hookups with the wires going to the reset and power switch.

I tried switching the reset and power switches like you suggested, same problem. But I have to thank you, you led me in the right direction. What the problem was is that the reset buttons polarity was off. the manual is incorrect about the polarity. I kept changing the polarity and location of the connectors and finally got the correct combination. This suprised me though, I didn't think the polarity of a switch would make a difference. An LED would fry with the wrong polarity. Thanks again, I was just about to buy a different MOBO.
