When you plug the power cord in, the PS fan starts turning? Sounds like the on/off switch is bad. If the lights on the keyboard flash and the cpu fan is turning - You are getting power... /forum/wink.gif

"You take your tounge and touch it to the" I am kidding! Is it an AT or ATX? My bet is that its an AT and its the switch. Do you have a meter so you can check continuity on the switch? I guess if you did you could also check the output for voltage. Try taking it to your local radio shack and using one of there volt meters. The voltage's and pin locations should be marked on the PS case.

Not sure if this is gonna be any help and if I even understand what you mean by fixing the ps because the fan runs when you plug it in. But I have an ATX ps and the fan came on when I plugged in the cord to check it out when I first got the case. So I figured that there must be power since the fan started running and that it was in working condition. Also the only way to turn off the ps, since I didnt have it hooked to mobo yet, was to just unplug it. I hooked it up to the mobo and everything ran fine and shut down when I pressed the power button to test it after I did a check thru the bios for good measure.

Does your power supply also have an on-off switch on it? AND, have you actually installed the PS in a case or are you just plugging in a power cord? If you have not installed it into a case, or otherwise hooked up a remote power switch, this is something else to consider.

I have seen some ATX PS units that have both an "electric" switch and a physical "on/off" switch.

The "electric" switch within the PS I am referring to is controlled by a remote "on/off" switch that is usually mounted in the front of the puter case, and when hooked up, it over-rides the physical switch when powering the PS off. The physical switch is actually mounted in the PS somewhere, usually on the back side that faces out of the case when it is mounted.

This physical switch within the PS is there in the event that your puter case doesn't have a remote "on/off" switch. (anyone else remember having to reach around to the back of your pc to turn it off and on?)

SO, if you have not hooked up a remote "on/off" switch, the PS will get power and the fan will spin if the the power is applied and the physical switch mounted on the back of the PS is in the ON position.

If there is a physical switch in the PS unit itself, try plugging the unit in and turning it off to see if that stops the condition you have reported.

Incidently when the PS is installed, AND its hooked up to a remote "on/off" switch, then the physical switch on the PS must also be on (and left that way) for the remote switch to operate the PS normally for daily use.

Did that help?

sorry. That's not really help a lot. Here is how i try to see watch happen. First i plug the black long cord into my house electrical output. then the fan blowing really hard. "that's not suppose to happen."then plug it into the mobo then connect the case power switch. then i turn on the PS switch on and then i turn the case power switch on to see any electric pass through the mobo. but guess not. even i tried to plug the case speaker for any indicator noise. NO INDICATOR.
