I'm trying to reinstall a laser printer (an Okidata OL600e) to my computer. I had had it hooked up and running fine in the past, but in the interim I also had a different printer (an HP) connected to system, and now that I want to switch back to the Okidata, it's a no-go, with port errors and driver problems popping up everywhere.
I removed the HP drivers, and also the Okidata drivers left over from the first time, and then reinstalled the Okidata drivers. When I tried to print, the computer couldn't send the print job to the printer because of a problem with the port. Printing a test page didn't work either. So I removed the LPT:1 port in Device Manager and allowed Device Manager to sense and automatically reinstall it, after which there were no more port errors and the computer could send the print jobs to the printer, but what actually came out was a few lines of garbled text on each page, and printing a test page again didn't work. So I deleted the drivers and reinstalled them again, but then I was back to the port error.
I believe I am installing the drivers correctly, off of the floppy, through the "Add new printer" option in Control panel/Printers. And I tried doing this several times manually, and also letting windows do it automatically at start-up. The printer should also be OK, as it's been working fine with another system.
This might be beyond the scope of the little troubleshooting section in my manual, but I'm sure it's just one of those relatively simple things that I'm missing. Or at least I hope so. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks a lot!!
