Hi,
I have this mpeg file (of an F1 car) but I really want to take the sound
from it and save it as a WAV or MP3, without any sound degradation.

Any tips?

This is a mpeg-1 audio/video file and you just want to record the audio portion?

The good news is it can be done easily. The catch would be, whether or not you have a sound-recorder that lets you record the sound you are currently hearing.

I checked Windows 'sound recorder' for this feature. No go.

If you have a soundcard from Creative, you're in luck. The tiny Creative Recorder that's included in the soft, does just that. I just tested it. It works good. It can record up to 48KHz 16-bit stereo @ 188KB/s. The resulting .wav file will be quite large. If you have a mp3 encoder, convert it to and more managable sized file.

Try the sound-recorder that comes with your soundcard even it isn't one from Creative. More then likely it will do the same thing. Maybe your mp3 encoder/player can directly record from a mpeg file.

I did that once before with Windows Sound Recorder. Just start recording, then play the movie file. Trim off the excess later. It worked great for me the one time I used it, months ago... Good luck.

Yep. Your right Eli. I just tried Windows Recorder again and it works. I set it to record at "Best Quality" but it didn't handle it at 48/16/188, however, the file can be converted afterwards.
