I have a brand new 1.44 3.5 floppy drive that will not work
the light stays on all the time and yes the ide cable is in right : )
the bios settings are correct and the floppy shows up in the boot up. Win 98 device manager also recognizes it and states that it is installed and working. I just upgraded the motherboard can anyone help?

Magic
I get the "A:\is not accessable the device is not ready " message when i try to read from a disk : )

Well, what happens when you try to read from a disk?

I know you said the cable is connected right, but did you at least try to reverse it? Floppy drives aren't as standardized as hard disks as to which side the red stripe goes on. 2 of my 3 systems have the red stripe away from the power connector and 1 has it toward the power. In my experience, a solid light has always been a reversed cable.

Good luck,

Steve

Howste is right...if the cable is correct at the floppy, check it at the controller or motherboard. Tho its hard to read for some of us, most motherboards these days have a pin 1 mark at the end of the fdd plug.

Also, make sure the drive is plugged into the connection after the twist in the cable to make it the A drive.
If you still have problems, see if it works with a boot disk, or in DOS. If it does, try removing the floppy drive controller in the device manager and re-booting.
