Ok, I looked through the IBM deskstar thread below, and I know it is supposed to be a very good harddrive, I am sort of torn between it and the quantums. Some of the new quantums supposedly beat the 22gxp out in speed, even though they're only 5400 rpm.(the cx series mainly) However, I am aware that they only have a 512kb buffer as opposed to the 2mb of the IBM. The system that this is going in is my wife's system which is only a k6 200mhz, w/ 64mb of ram, but she is getting a digital camera for xmas, and will need alot more room. 9 or 10 gig drives seem to be running around a hundred bucks no matter what kind they are, so what is the fastest drive period?? The Ibm 7200's, or the quantums?? ie... KA, CX, CR etc etc. I do not care for maxtor or western digital or seagate really, in my experience they are not as reliable, and are louder, etc etc. Any advice would be appreciated... /forum/smile.gif

P.S. The system DOES have support for UDMA2/33mb drives, just not the 66 protocol of course, and it's running win98 so I feel like it will be able to use the faster harddrives speed...

I have the Quantum KAplus 7200 R.P.M. I love it. I've never used IBM for hard drives. Only Quantum. Why I haven't tried anything else or want to try another? I've had great success and tech support from Quantum. Same goes for IWill MoBo's. I'm sure you'll get lots of different answers. Just wanted to let you know what I've had good luck/success with.

Hi

The 22Gxp series from IBM is getting old, go for the 34Gxp... up to 34Gb of storage !

IMHO,The cache is going to be the biggest performance feature.
