Hey, I won't play you for dumb. I hate intel and Microsoft, because they hold technology back to juice it for all the money they can get. I use, sadly, Win 98 and a PIII. My next system will be AMD and Linux. If YOU like or dislike these companies, state why please... Just curious about what others think.

Will Linux play all the games that are on the market today?

I'm not a big fan of Intel either. Only reason i bought a Celeron is cuz of the price and overclockability. AMD K-7 will be my next processor.

Ok, here's an analogy for you: Microsoft and Intel are like Ford or chevy. They make mostly reliable, everyday usage stuff. For most people, it's ok. Sure, it breaks every now and then, but you take it in and get it fixed, that's just the way it is.
There are those of us who demand more. We're the ones with the BMW and Lexus frame of mind- it can be better, so make it that way. I dont care if Billy Bob only uses his comp to play deer hunter and look at porn on the internet, I want mine to go 8000 mph and make me coffee and not have to reload and reformat and work around stupid annoying bugs all of the time.
The problem is, most people aren't like that. Most people don't care enough to create the demand necessary for the mass upgrades that it would require to get the state of computing to where it should be.

Ok, my little rant is over.

I don't care much for microsoft or intel either. They hold back progress WAYYYYYY too much. Next machine will be K7.

The vast majority of computers today can be catorgised as WinTel. This means they run the bloated and highly uneffiecent Windows with ever increasing fast Intel chips. Basically the fat cats are making money (and lots of it!!!). Sadly there has to be a standard OS for portability. This standard is here to stay as Windows!!! It's true, there are many other technically better OS's out there, but none can beat Windows ease of use and massive selection of software. Windows is for the everyday user while Linux is for the hardcore user. Windows will always be the market leader, but the same can't be said for Intel. Recently the AMD K7 has cleared outperform anything Intel had to offer. So in a few years AMD maybe market leaders, and then we'll be complaining about their dominace and supporting Intel!!!

jonathankeeping - That is a misnomer to say that MS's OS will always be the market leader. Everything eventually DIES. They won't cease to exist, but some OS will come along and give Win a run for its money.

Linux is going to give it a hell of a run. Just 5 yrs ago it took 50 floppies to install Linux. Now, just pop that puppy in and whatch it go.

The true way that Linux will knock Win out is if it can run the best games out there. I think this will eventually happen. When thats the case, I will switch 100%
