I need help please. I thought I saw this posted once before. I lost my network neighborhood icon today. How do I get it back> I also get this error at start-up, right when I reach my desktop. It says it is looking for the msnp32.dll file. I am almost sure these two are related. Any suggestions?

Your dll file might have been corrupted. Get this dll from any other win system and put it into
WINDOWS/SYSTEM directory ( make sure it's new enoguh version ). If the dll was the problem , it will be resolved.

You can also delete the network protocols, reboot, and reinstall them again. Go into control panel, network to do this. You can also go here, http://www.ehelpfree.com/nathan/utility.html , and install tweakui for your operating system. You can have Network Neighborhood's icon placed on your desktop.

Idnew: Remember that removing it removes a lot of networking components so that you can face serious problems if you ever want to connect to a network or even want to link together two machines with a cable.

in windows(you will need your windows cd or the cab files)
go to the start button and then click on run
type in "sfc" click on ok
select the "extract one file" option
in the window type "msnp32.dll" then click on start
in the restore from window point it to your windows cab files
and in the save file in window type "c:\windows\system" click ok and that will reextract the dll file which should fix your problem

Thanks for the info Glytzhkof, I already knew that but don't plan on doing that and it is so easy to get back anyway. I did not put it back on when I had to format and I sure don't miss that icon sitting there and doing nothing. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
