Thinking of upgrading my hard drive to IBM's Deskstar 14 gig 7200 ATA drive. Anyone have any experience with this drive (especially with overclocking)??? Thanks!

From what I know, If you plug any ATA/66 hard disk into an ATA/66 port, you can actualy put the PCI bus up to 66mhz (of course, all your cards will die.

uhh
IBM's harddrives are among (if not) the best.
the GXP25 series are loaded with great features, including ATA-66, 7200 RPM's 2MB Cache, and other neat stuff
I have a new WD drive that uses essentially the same technology as the IBM GXP25 series. It can be clicked up to 105 Mhz with DMA on. (possibly higher..The processor that is in that machine wont run higher than 105Mhz FSB)

I have owned the 9.1G version for about a year with no problems at all (knock, knock) ... But, the fastest FSB i ever ran with was 112MHz.
I also purshased another recently from TJT 10G for around $110.00 (see steals and deal section) /forum/smile.gif

Hi...

IBM... the best...
You can not go wrong with any 22Gxp or 34 Gxp series. They all come with 2Mb cache and spin @ 7200rpm.
Hd capacitiy in the 22Gxp series starts at 9.1Gb, up to 22Gb. In the 34Gxp, the smallest you can get is 13.5Gb... the biggest is 34Gb...hummmm.
I have set up a PC @ work with four 34Gxp 34Gb with a FastTrack66 RAID card (RAID0/1)... I love that PC !!!

IBM is the BEST!!!!!!!!!

Hi Stan
IBM are good, but have you seen the latest trade e-mail from them regarding their servers and NT only recognizing 8 gig of your drive while there BIOS reports it correctly, their sugested fix page when I went to it just sead NO FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. just shows that it doesn't matter how good your sytem, its only as good as your OS. /forum/wink.gif /forum/smile.gif /forum/wink.gif

Hi SouthFla

I've had the IBM Deskstar 22GXP model DJNA-31800 (18G/7200/66/2mg buffer) for about a month now, and find it a great drive - very fast and quiet.

I'm o/c'ing PIII 450 @527 (117FSB) and have had no problems.

Since the IBM's higher rpm drives have a tendency to run a bit warm, I also just ordered a Triple HDC cooling fan from 3DCool to keep it happy. /forum/smile.gif

I have several small hard disk drives in my system, although the past is no indication fo the future, I have both a maxtor and a quantum, both ata/66, on the 124bus, no problems.

Hi WW

Once again, it's good to hear (read) from you again.

Yep, it is true that NT (server or ws) does not recognize more that 8Gb. But it will if you "service pack" it (not sure which sp... but sp6 does the job)
