Iīve installed windows 3 times now cleand regedit of everything from soundblaster. Iīve been upgrading from the old liveīcard to the live 1024 but my system says there is an emu10k1.vxd error at some address, everytime windows loads an sound. I donīt understand it because Iīve uninstalled everything and cleand regedit of everything from soundblaster but I still get the same error. Iīve been changing slot yes but the same error. Please help me quick if you can.

This is probably pretty obvious but I have to ask... Do you have an Eu101k.vxd file on your system? I have a soundblaster Live (value) and I don't have that file on a WinNT4 system. Have you searched your registry for Emu101k.vxd to see if it is a legacy file from your last sound card?

Dear sdt,

Yes, Iīve searched, found and deleted all entries in my registry and Iīve deleted the file in c:\windows\system and then reinstalled windows, but the file is only on the sound blaster cd so windows donīt seem to solve anything. Iīm out of ideas Iīm thinking about deleting windows but not if you or anyone could tell me how to solve the problem. I just thought that cleaning up the registry would solve it and deleting the file in windows.

I have a reference to that file in my registry for 98. I don't have a soundblaster card either. I'm wondering if something is calling to that file?

Dear Nathan,

Yes, Creative SB live! 1024
and Creative Multimedia Interface in prob. for this computer. Iīve tried to disable either one of them but that didnīt solve anything it just says that this res. is used by another unit.

I believe it was mmsystem002 or something sim. I believe that winamp is calling this file but anyway when windows plays an *.wav file the same error emu10k1.vxd appears.

Can you help me ?

I'd try to uninstall the following (I don't think it should matter which order you do it in):

1. Sound card, in device manager (don't reboot yet).

2. Winamp

3. Possibly any other program like winamp. I don't think it's necessary to delete the media player at this point. But that might be an option in the future.

Then reboot into safe mode and make sure the sound card is deleted out of device manager. Then reboot and let windoze redetect the sound card.

Winamp has been known to create some havoc in systems, FYI.

Iīve got my card up runing by installing the standart sound Blaster live! drivers from creative but it dosnīt work with my 1024 driver cd donīt know why
