In a post you made on April 5th you stated

"I'm almost certain that the bios image file and/or the awdflash utility download has a boot sector virus attached with it. Either that or it has a (major) flaw in the way it sets up itself."

Correct me if I've misunderstood what you said, but my interpretation is that you believe that the flash utility & BIOS file on The Soyo sites are infected or corrupted. I'm interested in upgrading the BIOS on my 6BA+IV to use a greater than 36 gig HDD.

I had a long talk (long distance toll call for me) with Soyo tech support about this and some other things.

There was something odd about their first posting of the Bios files and/or the new Award flash utility.

It's fine now.

It is a better Bios. Especially for the ATA33/66 controller calls. It corrected the transfer speed on the Kenwood True72x CD-ROMs.(Previously, it would only work at 20x speed no matter how it was connected or configured.)

Its safe to download and install the Bios.

There is still something unusual about it but it hasn't anything to do with installation process or anymore.

If you have an internal ATAPI Zip drive, it will see it as the boot device even tho' it isn't set as such in the Bios. This results in a "replace boot disc" type of message if the system is rebooted and a zip cartridge is in the drive. It will also result in not being able to set/change the active partition and/or drive letter in FDISK as long as the ZIP is connected to the ATA33 controller. (haven't tried it connected to the ATA66 controller)

-This could be with just my combination of hardware, but I doubt it.-

Otherwise, there is no problem keeping the ZIP attached. With the new Iomegaware, the cartrigde is always ejected when the system is rebooted and/or shutdown. In previous versions of Iomegaware, it would not always function.

Thanks for your reply. No Zip drives, just a LS-120 & SCSI CD-RW besides my ATA66 & ATA33 HDDs.
