Yes, I know, stupid - I didn't realise it was the wrong one! The laptop won't even go through POST!!! Is there any way I can recover this? Axel 04-26-2000, 08:06 AM No - doubtful you can - you'll need to either send the laptop in to have factory techs install a new EEPROM, or you'll need to get a new EEPROM chip sent to you and you install it. When you flashed the wrong file into the EEPROM, you wrecked the ability of the I/O system to address anything. You can't get back in - all the communications channels are wrecked. Sorry for the bad news - SupremeSpod 04-26-2000, 08:28 AM Axel, good news... I smurfed the web and found that there is a little safety device built into the BIOS!!! (just in case people like me screw it up!!!) A boot loader/interpreter will load the O/S, and enable it to process the AUTOEXEC.BAT file! I had the utility to flash a correct BIOS on the floppy disk, inserted it, rebooted, the utility powered off the machine, I powered on the box, and YES!!! IR having wonderful PC up and RUNNING IR!!!! (For I truly am the SupremeSpod) A tip for us all to remember!!! Darvocet 04-26-2000, 10:45 AM I did the same stupid thing once and I thought my brand new mobo was a goner. I then looked and the jumpers for clear c-mos were set so that the bios could not be flashed. It flashed the bios to a memory chip. I took the chip out, set it to the side for a half an hour then put it back in and the computer booted as normal with the old bios in place! Pretty weird huh? But I swear it's true. SysOpt.com
