I have this friend (honest injun)who reversed the cable to his on-board video card and powered up his machine - He now has no video display at all. My question is: can I install a new video card in a PCI slot to get him up and running, or do I need to replace his motherboard?
Mobo = VIA BX-Too 100 MHz
Unbranded PII 400 MHz
ATX architecture

Hopefully the board is O.K. and the new vidio card will be all your friend needs.
On most boards with built in vid there is a jumper that needs to be moved in order to disable the on board card, and get the system to recognize the new one. Also, if you get a display, go into the BIOS and look for a vidio setting there. Usually there is a setting to reserve some of the RAM for the on board vid and you will want to disable it so the system won't be wasting it.

Despite rereading the manual I can't find a jumper setting to disable the onboard video on his M760V mobo. If I can't see any thing how can I get into the BIOS to change settings.
My advice is to go ahead & try a different video card - perhaps the on-board video being out is all the mobo needs to let it "see" a different video out-put - probably wouldn't hurt to try -
Any chance it's the monitor or a damaged cable - compare the # of pins at both ends of the cable - they should be the same - try a different monitor - I've seem more monitors go out than I have seen video cards go out.
Good luck.

On that board just go into the BIOS and select the option "enable PCI first" instead of AGP. That will tell the board to use the PCI video as the PRIMARY video output.
