different cities...different rates....different prices...you can either place a few calls or you can check into a good travel agent and they have access that you do not...good luck...price will vary by quite a bit also so do some research

I rent cars a lot and I would recommend ALAMO I have found they have the best prices. and tell you the truth when renting. Cars are cheap to rent. I usually get a midsized for about 25 to 30 bucks a day the kicker is the fees involved. Use a credit card that will pay the CDW fees this will save you 10 bucks a day at least. If you are going to rent it for 4 or more days get it by the weekly rate. DO NOT take the prepay on the fuel. Just be sure you take it back full. Dont pick it up at the airport as there are extra fees and taxes for this. Taxes and fees usually run about 20% on top of the rent price. If you pick it up at the airport.

thx a lot bleep that's some good info. But this is the first time i'll be renting a car by myself so forgive me for asking but what is CDW. sounds like it is some kind of insurance. anyways I have liability/collision etc. insurance through 20th century and I just assume that this covers me regardless of what car I'm driving(rental, friend's car etc). and I guess you said by charging my credit card it also includes some insurance. basically should I go in for the insurance that they offer or is this just something that they can make an extra buck off. and what else should I not get since I'm a college student who seems to be broke oh tooooooooo often. thx

CDW Collision Damage Waver. What it does is pay the deductable that you have on your insurance. |Be sure and talk to your insurance company about your coverage. One other thing I might mention is I hope you are 25 years old because if you are not It is very difficult to rent a car. Where are you going ? You have another option. If you are going to NY MN or DC rental cars are very expensive. If this is the case try Ryder and rent a cargo van. Make up some business cards and get a really good rate. The only drawback to this is they are usually a long ways from the Airport and will not pick you up, but sometimes you can talk them into taking you back to the airport. Went back and read your last post and you need to have full coverage on your car if you dont just take their insurance except for loss of personal belongings. There insurance will run you about 20 to 25 bucks a day, just about the cost of the rental but a really safe way to go.
