We are looking for a PC with a physical lock on it. I can't seem to find anything below a server that locks. We are a Compaq shop, but may be willing to look elsewhere if we can find this option. We need the lock to secure the PC from being used by unauthorized personell, we need something further than screensaver passwords. Any suggestions??

do you mean a lock for the floppy drive or a lock for the case?

I worked with a totaly phycotic once, less than a total lock, but more than screen savers. It had a specialy writen bios that required a Unin login and password right after video and keyboard initialized. The bios could only be accessed by using a dip switch on the mother board iteslf, and both side pannels of the case had physical locks on them, a little extreme for my tastes, just giving you some ideas, if you can program for CMOS.

Sounds like you are trying to stop people like I was when I was a kid. I used to go into computer shops and hack up their display machines.

10 *** insert poke to disable key input ***
20 PRINT "This machine sucks, don't buy it!"
30 GOTO 20

Making the display strobe was a good one too.
Ahhhh the days of on-board BASIC.
Of course now it's mostly format c: , or resetting the password - not as imaginative in my opinion /forum/smile.gif
Porno screensavers can be funny too.

leslie is looking for an actuall LOCK on the computer....i guess some of you guys have never seen an old timer befor have you...
i don't really think that any form of a new computer will have a lock...though i do know that any gateway computer can be fitted with a lock when you buy it for $39....
other than that you'd have to have an oldy

Key operated switches are at any hardware store. Drill a hole in your case for the switch, and splice in to your wires where the "on" button is. Turn key to make button operative. Also, don't over look the ingeneuity of you local locksmith!!

Rackmount enclosures have locks. Locks for everything. On the door to the drive bays, keyed power and keyboard locks.

This along with Bios case intrusion detection, coupled with supervisor and user Bios passwords, with Windows logon and screensaver passwords and/or password utilities...

You can at least give someone a headache.

If you look hard enough, you'd probably find a regular type case with a lid and keyboard lock....
