They're history!

But I do feel sorry for the employees, though.

If I'm not mistaken, IBM is dropping the Aptiva line also. This will efectively put them out of the home pc market. Forgot where I heard(or read)about it though. I guess they both got tired of the high memory prices as well! C.C.

Not much of a surprise. They've got proprietary software, proprietary memory, proprietary sound, proprietary modems....
Who would want to work on them? I only had that displeasure once, and I swore, never again.

Their support sucks, their products suck, it was only a matter of time, but, yeah, I do feel bad for the people losing their jobs.

Here's C|Net's view:

Personally I'm REALLY HAPPY that they're not making any more of their crappy proprietery systems anymore. /forum/biggrin.gif

I thought IBM was simply switching to the online market. They're still selling Aptivas like Dell sells their systems online. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I had a PB before. Didn't like so I sold it and built my own computer. Now I have exactly what I want (OK not exactly because I can't afford that). As for the job losses, that really sucks. I have friends that have gotten laid off because of downsizing or closings and it isn't fun. /forum/frown.gif /forum/frown.gif

Now I feel in more sorry for the PB users. Soon they will be without any tech support at all. Anyone know what that will stop?

Bet it won't take long for the "official" tech support to dry up, after all why should PB continue spending on this if they're no longer trying to keep customers?

BUT - those owners will always have help if they can find sites like this!

Your right ED_S. They had better make sure they have their restore disks and CD's.

Personally, I dont feel sorry for packard bell customers. They knew what to expect when buying a packard bell. you dont walk into a best buy and the sales rep most likely wont say...Well, I have this compaq.....but..CHECK OUT THIS KICK *** PB! heh...not likely. For one, the warranty should and will be honored for the time of the 1 year period that it was due for. NEC is the parent company so getting support engineers wont be a problem. But after the warrany period is up for all customers..yeah..they probably will be screwed 8-)
The job market is so good right now tho, with unemplyment at a record low of just 4.1% getting another job shouldnt be hard...not in this industry /forum/smile.gif
