I usually use getright...but I just tryed a beta program called "Mass Downloader"...I tryed with 30 threads and got unbelivable speed! But I don't like the program itself. I doesn't catch clicks, and you can't drag and drop links...you have to enter the URL manually...and that suck. So does any body know of a full featured multi thread downloading program? shareware/freeware is better.

I use Go!Zilla for downloading. It's free with some advertising or you can pay to get rid of the ads.

I'm surprised Socalgal hasn't jumped in here already. She found out some interesting things with GoZilla...and Aureate. Anyway, I'll let her explain, she should be along shortly.....

You can try this freeware. http://www.cbnp.com/NetAnts1b267.zip

It supports drag and drop.

BTW: Opening 30 threads is a waste of total bandwidth. Suppose a ftp site only allow 200 users. 7 people open 30 threads each other would hold all ports available..

Here I am! lol /forum/smile.gif

Yep, GoZilla, Auereate, and their ilk, are my favorite pet peeves! Read thru this this thread
http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum8/HTML/000193.html explaining...

I like GetRight so much, I bought it! /forum/smile.gif

you might also want to try http://www.downloadaccelerator.com/
it adds itself as a plugin to internet explorer and netscape, so its not a seperate program that you have to run to download stuff. it is a multithread downloader, and it also can resume downloads, etc... the only downside is that you have to look at ads, but hey - its free!

Getright does rock...I don't like the adds in 4.x though, but it works better than 3.x. Also it doesn't do multi threading....if it did, it would be the perfect program. I've tried Download Accelerator...it just lacks the functionality I'm used to with getright. Hmmm, the search continues.

Socalgal Getright is now in the Aureate ranks I regret to inform you. Ha, I hate to say I told you so....but I did in the thread you linked to above.

I've been using Go!Zilla for a long time now. I didn't know about the addition to my registry. But I don't get any junk mail either. I hate being watched and tracked.

Nope. Just did a search in my registry. Nothing with Auereate.

Maybe only the unregistered versions have it? Or it uses a different name now?

"Aureate"

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Aureate.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Aureate.
http://www.aureate.com/devs-n-pubs/network_members.html

a list of all the "members". Getright, nor Headlight Software Inc. are not listed, but the proof is in da pudd'n.

one other little note....after I del the registry entry....guess what popped um next time I go to download with getright. Yup, that same Aureate pop up window. "And the cat game back..." It's back in the registry.

Yes, you've got the "proof is in da pudd'n" alright. This has been bugging me all day. My regedit is clear and there is no mention of Aureate anywhere on my GetRight.

I have the registered ver3.3.4. So, it would seem that they came into association with Aureate since my ver and ver4. Interesting.

I would imagine this would affect the updates. I wonder if one can safely delete these cookies and still have full operation/function of the registered/updated. I'll have to back it up and see /forum/wink.gif

Well, *sigh* I'm off to the http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum8/HTML/000193.html thread to post with news of this one.

Again, good catch seti. It's good to know of these things.

EDIT: seti, You must've posted while my window was open. Sounds like they got us coming and going. This really irks me, as I've paid for it now. I think I'll be shooting them a letter to state my thoughts on this matter.

HUH??

seti, are you finding Aureate listed anywhere in your registry? I did a regedit search when I made the above post and didn't find any in mine...

I am upset to see this (and for giving possibly bad info) /forum/frown.gif I'll be scouring my registry when I get home!

Thanks for the info.
