I have a very strange problem. I tried this small freeware program(can't recall the name) that is supposed to store DNS addresses locally on your HD so your browser doesn't have to look on the Internet to find them. This is supposed to speed up browsing a bit. Well, not only did it not speed up browsing, but it pulls up the wrong pages. I'm sure plenty of you have been to WWW.Voodooextreme.com . I used to go there daily, but I can't anymore. When I try to,any browser I try pulls up Seth Green's Official Home Page. WTF is the deal? Somewhere locally is the problem, because I know Voodooextreme is still there. If anyone can give me any advice I would be greatful. I'm using Windows 98 with IE5 and Netscape 4.5. Both have the same problems.

I would open up a file called Hosts in the c:\windows directory. It is a file that allows you to input IP addresses and the names associated with that IP address. The file has no extension but often has a .sam extension (sample file). The program most likely placed entries in this file. Whenever you type in a name, i.e. www.voodoextreme.com, it resolves the name to whatever IP is in the host file. The entries there should be of the form:

209.1.23.17 <TAB> www.voodooextreme.com

I hope this helps you some.

Verbalabuse, you are good. Thanks. Problem solved, I just named hosts, hosts.bak, tried it, and money. Thanks again
