This is really irritating my wife, her computer used to begin playing an audio cd when inserted. The windows cd player still opens but doesnt begin playing until you click play. This seemed to happen after installing Sonique...and now after uninstalling it the problem remains. All auto-insert notifications are on, program and other media cd's DO auto-run. Every option to enable auto-play is on. File association with audio cd's is set for PLAY as default. Any other ideas?

Had the same problem with Realplayer. You could check and edit file associations for the cd player. I found it easier to remove and re-install the standard player from windows setup multimedia options.

Surely you have TweakUI installed, right? (if not, then install it. It should be on your Windows installation CD.)

Anyways, in TweakUI, under the "Paranoia" tab, there's a section called "Things that happen behind your back" and it has two settings that can be enabled or disabled:

- Play audio CDs automatically
- Start data CDs automatically

Give that a try.

Well of course tweakui is installed, and all the appropriate boxes are checked but still no auto play on audio cd's http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
CD player comes up but doesnt start to play like it used to til you click the play button. Such a stupid little problem but yet drives me nutty!

Try this:

Go to the window where all the file associations are. I forget exactly what it's called, sorry.

Edit the Audio CD association. It should say "C:\Windows\cdplayer.exe" (or wherever Windows is).

Add "/play" to the command line. The result should look like: "C:\Windows\cdplayer.exe /play"

Note the space after .exe

See if that works, it worked for me when my computer stopped doing it (other software overwrote it and I wanted the original windows player)

Good luck

Hey thanks Ruahrc!! Sometimes the obvious just escapes me, I only had cdplayer.exe in the command line. #@**## programs that dick with settings drive me nuts! I hope there's a "treat" from my wife for getting that back for her! For me of course http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Thx again!

Yeah, no problem!

I hate those stupid programs- especially with my computer that isn't the superpower it used to be.. (mmmm this summer....upgrade.... mmmmm) using the different programs just slow it down some and when the windows ones work great and start up in an instant- I pick them over the new stuff all the time.
