Sound card is happy, joystick is not. Always reads "not connected". Have latest software from MS; Creative suggested install as '2-axis, 2-button joystick' - no go. Have removed all sound and game devices and re-installed. Exact same problem on 2 systems - Athlon 500 on MSI-6167 mobo with 128Mb ram, and Celeron 500 on Tyan Trinity 400 mobo with 64 Mb ram. This joystick worked flawlessly in my older Pentium systems using Sound Blaster 16. I hate to think it is legacy already (about 2 years old), so hope there might be some suggestions. Thanks.

had this problem with a precision pro on a k62 system was able to move the plug and it would connect sometimes right in the middle of a game it would quit. purchased a sidewinder force feedback have had no problems though a friend has a sidewinder pro that also does this again you can move the plug at the sound card and it will begin to work this is on a vortex card mine is on a sblive value. so possibly it is in the connection where it plugs into the sound card.

I got a way different set up, but had the same problem. If you go into system properties, then joystick is yours listed in there?
I had to creat new joystic, select microsoft digital, then install my wingman software, then remove digital. this may be worth a try,

I used to have those problems...But, I haven't had that happen in a year or so since.

I think it has something to do with new drivers/game controller software and resolving hardware conflicts.

I had a similar problem with my Saitek Cyborg and SB Live!

Sometimes it would just forget it was there.

What seemed to work was going into Device Manager and under "Creative Devices" remove the "Creative Joystick" entry

I can only guess that this stops Creative's drivers from running and allows the specific ones for your joystick to work.

You may need to calibrate you stick again after doing this.

I had same problem with SB Live and this joystick not being connected. I read somewhere (don't remember where) to set it up as the CH Flightstick Pro and Windows would recognize it. I am running Win98 (not SE) and it works fine.

From my experince with the sb live it doesn't get along with many things the only fix i've found for it was to have the most updated drivers for it and if memory serves me correctly I think there might be a flash for it ....

Hmmm.....It's so strange...I thought that problem had disappeared, as I have not ran into it in at least 2 years. I've put SB-Lives in many PC's with Sidewinder joysticks, never a single problem, with Win98/SE/2K as long as I used the latest Liveware and the latest Sidewinder gaming software.

It always detects it properly as a sidewinder 3D Pro by itself...never have I specified the MS joysticks.
