I have IE5 set up to load with a blank page. I am hooked up to a cable modem also, and when I started ie5 just a second ago I heard the familiar little link-click noise and when I looked up, very briefly I could see in the address area a link that was basically:
"http://www.microsoft.com/ie5update/updates.html" but a lot longer. and then it dissapeared and went to a blank page. what gives? I know im not seeing things /forum/smile.gif any thoughts?

Check tools/internet options/advanced. Check to see if "automatically check for internet explorer updates" and "enable install on demand" are checked or not.

I think xtant might have nailed it. I was seeing this briefly as well until I unchecked those options. /forum/biggrin.gif

I.E. 5.0 with all of it's bells & whistles is over 18 megs - the install disk, or download is simply a set-up program which hits an MS web site to get the rest of the load down.

Probably what you saw was the install program either getting the last of it's components, or checking on the MS site to see if there was an update.

Another possibility was that IE5 knew it needed something else to optimize your cable modem which isn't what you'd call standard....

Just for grins, though, I'd update my definitions and do a virus scan.
