I guess I should of knocked on wood after replying to the "What's the fastest you've downloaded at?" string. I was away for a couple days so I disconnected my cable modem...cuz I've been paranoid lately. Anyway, when I got back I had a message telling me that it couldn't connect to the network to retreive a new address....or something like that, I didn't read it too closely. (opps). Anyway, I asume that they change your ip address on the first of the month or something for security reasons. My ip address is the same as it was....and my net performance just sucks right now. I may be jumping the gun and it will be fine later on tonight or something though. But I'd still like to know what's going on with my ip.

Don't you remember them telling you not to disconnect the cable from the modem when they installed it? Not only does it knock you off line, but everyone lese in your node (up to 200) will have problems too! Man, are your neighbors going to be pissed when they find out it was you responsible for their poor connect speeds!

Ha, are you serious!? ha, that's retarted! Oopps /forum/smile.gif But the guy never told me that so it's not my fault! I swear! haha, and I was gone for two days! Maybe someone else disconnected their moedem and that's why I'm chugging. This 1.5/kps is really starting to get me down. /forum/frown.gif

More than likely you just gotta reset it a few times, sometimes my @home bandwith sucks, i guess my neighbors hog it all, so i just reset it a few times, sometimes leavin it off for 10 minutes, usually i can get back upto speed =).
And Where the heck did you hear that disconnecting a cable modem causes problems for everyone, pfft.
i'm kinda happy only 4 people that i know of have a cable in my area -=]. I never have any bandwidth prob. and the installation guy never said not to disconnect it, but he was a moron, not to mention 5 hours late(suprise, a cable company not on time, imagine that).

My cable guy only took 1.5 hours, did a fantastic job and was most knowledgable. He emphasized NOT to disconnect the cable from the modem (VSWR/reflections back up the cable to the node screws EVERYONE on the node up). I do turn my cable modem off with my system power. On power-up, it always re-configures itself by the time the computer has booted up.
