i remembered someone asking how much win2k was gonna cost - i dont remember if it got answered - but i came across this article today:
http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2385810,00.html

looks like its gonna be priced at $219 for the upgrade, and $319 for the full version. OUCH!

Geez MS, havent you forged enough Millionaires?
BTW this is one of the up's to buying a retail PC as opposed to build-your-own...the Win OS's come 'free'

And they wonder why they are software pirates....I could build a fairly nice system for $319....and that's paying retail for the parts. C.C.

bigslammer - i read (i forget where) that the beta versions of win2k are not upgradeable - if you try to upgrade it to a newer version, or with patches and the like, it will say "this is a beta version and not upgradeable". also, they expire after like, a year i think it is. i dont know if this means that the OS will stop working when it gets to a certain date, or if it will just become illegal to have it installed after this date or what.... just some info for ya there....

Heres a good use for those value dollars...But really over $200 for the upgrade!!! That's as much as a P3 450! Do they really expect us to pay that? This is outragous pricing, and unfortunately we can't do much about it. This is only going to make piracy worse. The problem is, Microsoft is so big that even a boycott would not effect it significantly and besides Microsoft's products have become so mainstream that it is very hard to operate without them. Isn't Bill Gates content with the billions he has already? What's next, is Windows Neptune going to cost $400 for the upgrade, I have some strange feeling it just might...
