Ok, I think Im just being overcautios but what the heck. I had win98 and win2000 previously on the same partition. I wanted to get rid of win98 (yaaaaay) so I had to delete the whole partition....for reasons not needed to go into I had to install win98 first on the c: drive, then install win2000 on the d: drive. So, my question is, can I go back and format the c: drive and get rid of win98 and safely get into win2000 still? The reason I ask is cause c: was the active partition. Thanks guys, hope that makes sense.
Are C: and D: separate drives or partitions on the same drive? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

w2k put about 4 or 5 hidden, system files on your C drive plus it modified your master boot record on C. Reformatting won't affect the MBR but it would wipe out the files.
If you could identify those files, copy them, and return them to C after the reformat, everything should work ok. When I changed from a dual boot with 98/w2k, back to solely 98, I had to delete two NT*.* and two BOOT*.* from my C drive and used 98's SYS command to fix the MBR.
Then you would have to change the BOOT.INI(?) file to get rid of the 98 choice. Or I suppose you could just ignore it. I don't really know anything about the effects of a bad boot.ini (if that is the right name!), but I can't imagine they're good.

Thanks guys, Yes, C and D are partitions on the same drive. I'll see if I can find out what files they put on C:
