I am trying to play mp3's on a home built computer possbly using a k5-100 but im hoping to get away with using a fast pic-micro device. wot i need to know is how to decompress/decode the file into the audio format which i shuv into a D-A converter.
I've tried looking on the net but get nothing but loads of sites with mp3s for download.

Have you tried winamp? From personal experience, it just plain rules. I hear that Nero is also a good utility.
www.winamp.com (http://www.winamp.com)

I hope this is what you are looking for.

When i say home built computer, I mean from scratch Cpu memory etc. NOT a PC not running windows or winamp. It will play MP3's and be able to download them from a PC. But i need to know how the MP3 format works to decode them.

Sorry, I paid more attention to the topic than I did to the rest of the message. I'll read a little closer next time.

I've already got loads of stuff so wouldn't have to spend much if anything. Plus I want to use a large LCD (256x128 pixels).
