I built a computer and everything works fine except this one problem. My floopy drive wont register for some reason. I look in the device manager and it is not listed. I click on floppy drive and my system hangs. The drive is a Sony. Asus motherboard and Win98 SE. The drive will boot at start up. I get no error messages. It just wont work after windows loads.

Well, it just about had to work to start with in order to boot up & load the OS.
So, what happened since then?

Is it set up in the bios?

Some more info on the symptoms would help. Do you get a floppy disk error on boot? Without any details, I'd say try the following:

- Check your power and floppy cable to make sure they are fully seated.
- If your floppy disk light stays on constantly, switch the cable so that the red edge is on the other side.
- Check your settings in CMOS - is the floppy set up correctly? 3 1/2" 1.44MB

Post some more details so we can try to pinpoint the problem.

Stacy,

I have a really hard time going any further without more information. Your best bet would be to post the following information (and anything else you've noticed) on the thread at Sysopt.com:

1) Did the floppy ever work?
2) Does the drive make any noise when you boot?
3) Do you see any lights on the drive at any time?
4) Which connector on the floppy cable are you using?
4) You mentioned that it just wont work after windows loads - does it work if you just boot to a DOS prompt?

I'm posting this response back on Sysopt.com. That way you can get more than just my input.

Good luck,

Steve
