I'm trying to decide between the isa 56k faxmode and the pci 56k faxmodem from usr. Any suggestions.?

If I am not mistaken, the ISA bu USR is a hardware driven modem while the PCI is a software driven modem that works only under Windows. If you want to play around with Linux or any other OS besides Win, you have to have the ISA. I do not know if the speeds are different. The PCI uses more of the processor, so if you are a tweeker, get the ISA.

I do not think USR has come out with a hardware driven PCI. Other companies have. If it is hardware driven and not the WinModem, then look for a speed vs. price comparison. Hope this helps.

I have an ISA, too... the USR 1749 (OEM "Python")... it's great!! 50.6 every time (which is the best possible for my phone lines/ISP)... best I've ever had from this computer!

thanks for the advice guys, i also read some reviews(very good) about the isa but since the pci is newer(and not a winmodem) and the isa slot is going to be obselete in the future i'm a little worried about buying an isa.

I wouldn't worry about it. By the time ISA finally gets phased out, you would have upgraded pass several new systems. Either of those two USR will do you fine. I have the ISA version of the 56k Faxmodem myself. Worked great for the most part, but I did have to send it back to the factory a few days ago 'cause I was having problems with.

Hello. I require a 56k fax/data/voice modem (full duplex)to run with a 333 mhz mmx chip (128k L2 cache). Any recopmmendations?

Thanks!

I believe the USR 1749 (the one I mentioned above) can do that. It is ISA and AFAIK, there are no minimum system requirements (other than a free ISA port). Got mine from a local shop, Next Generation Computers (http://www.nxgen.com). However, the modem is OEM and does not come with anything other than drivers.

Also, US-Itek (http://www.us-itek.com) (another local shop) has an ISA, USR voice/data/fax modem for about the same price. Do now know if any software comes with, or if it is OEM or not.

Hope this helps!
