Well, I finally sorted out what has been giving me startup problems for the last 3 months. After a clean install of a full version of win 98se, it would give me the old" windows protection error" and shut down at the press of the next key. After re-installing a couple of times, moving to another hard drive, etc,I was told to update the drivers on my modem, sound card, video card, etc, remove it,then let plug and pray do it's thing. Turned out to be the modem, because after many startups in a row,it hasn't bombed on me at all. I just purchased the modem about a month before,so I thought that it couldn't be giving me problems, but it was.Modem is a modemblaster 56k V.90(model#5665). So if anybody has had the same type of problem, It might help you out to try what I did. Thanks to Axel and Susan who offered several tips to try and help sort out my problem.I thought I would post back to let you guys know what fixed it. Thanks again for de help... Mp
