IBM thinkpad..no sound!!

installed win95a to ibm tinkpad 760E (P133/32 ram)..cant get sound to work despite installing ESS 1688 sounddriverthe corect one)..dev mng shows ! next to soundcard entry. also-can this unit diplay 65000 colors (has trident videocard with l meg vram at 800X600). if i need drivers-can sumone direct me to a good source site (i hate to hv to navigate ibm site).

sorry - you want the hardware - you have to navigate their site - use the search tool -

Otherwise - take a look at the MS win95 site - or www.winfiles.com (http://www.winfiles.com) and grab all the updates they have for your OS out there - that may resolve the issue.

Lastly - what sounds are you trying to hear? - are we talking a CD here, or normal system sounds?? - have you been in control panel and associated any sounds with any events?

Also - the "!" mark will have details behind it - what does it say it needs? Or does it simply indicate you don't have the correct driver?

In the device manager, have you clicked on the computer at the top and checked for IRQ conflicts?

Does the last item in the list under system at the bottom of device manager indicate you need a new PCI bus driver?? or possibly other conflicts?

Have you downloaded and installed Directx6? how about 7? - how about the latest MS media player?

That's all that comes to mind.....

except that you might take a look to see if there is a new BIOS flash file on the IBM site for your specific model. Doubt that's it, but then you're talking IBM here....

Goto IBM's website, into support, and into the Thinkpad section. Do a search for the model number - it will look like 9547-X9A or something like that. IBM did several different types of E class 760, as yours is the P133 it should have 16-bit sound, which wouldn't be the ESS audiocard but a 16-bit Soundblaster card. The graphics card is probably a Trident Cyber9620 card but I'm unsure.
